Do Or Die Artwork

Sunken Treasure

When I was 28 death shifted from a nebulous event that would occur in the future to an abrupt, unscheduled ending that could happen today, tomorrow or worse: any minute. I had a huge vascular defect deep in my brain. It was in the worst imaginable place. Doctors said it could rupture at any time and kill me instantly or worse. There was also the possibility I’d die in surgery while they tried to fix it. Death got real.

Brain surgery was the best thing that could have happened to me. Suddenly the heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again. I was less sure about everything. From how to use a fork to how to drive, how to dial a phone, etc. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

In the years since, I’ve allowed my mind and body to heal, sold my business, finished art school and raised twins! I’m represented in galleries and have received many awards. My art has appeared in movies and collections worldwide. I’ve shown in museums and major retailers sell my art.

I had more brain surgery and suffered strokes as a complication in 2017. It took six months of cognitive and physical rehab, but I made a full recovery. I was injured in 2019 and had two surgeries to restore the use of my arm. Once again, I returned to making art full time. I must “bring forth all that is within me.”
