Tree Skirts
I went underground. By that I mean I found non-traditional venues for this work.
It had debuted at Beechwood Arts & Innovation (where this photo was taken) but then the art world was stymied due to the complexities of that time.
I made a large installation using many trees in the woods behind my house. The property is adjacent to a long stretch of green space and on a few days I heard sounds of excitement from people that had happened upon the spot. Their unexpected encounter thrilled me too. My anonymity added mystery giving the viewer further pause for thought. The installation has disappeared from that place but something changed for me because of it. My relationship to the work deepened.
I have connected with a small diverse group of women exploring options and discovering opportunities to make our art accessible. We are in cahoots to show our images on walls and fences and are reaching into nine communities spreading across the states. What’s more, I have made Tree Skirt sculpture kits for others to join me in a celebration of connectivity.
